This course includes a review of basic math concepts, the metric system, the apothecary system and conversion between systems. The use of mathematical principles to calculate medication dosages is discussed. Routes of medication administration and medical abbreviations are described.

This course provides an introduction to nursing and the roles of practical nurses. Emphasis is placed on use of the nursing process, evidence-based practice, safety, cultural sensitivity and patient centered care to promote health and wellness. Theories of nursing practice and current healthcare industry trends are introduced. The course also focuses on the principles of therapeutic communication and the nurse-client relationship when caring for patients across the lifespan.

The focus of this course is on the concepts used to provide safe and effective patient care. Emphasis is placed on the practical nurse’s role to meet the needs of patients in sable environments. The role of practical nurses with data collection, planning and implementing care for patients with chronic illness is discussed. Importance is placed on medical/surgical health alterations, illness, injury and disorders that require management in acute care facilities.

This course provides an integrative, family-centered approach using the nursing process in the care of childbearing and childrearing families. Emphasis is placed on healthy pregnancies and common complications, healthy growth and development, family dynamics, common pediatric disorders and the promotion of healthy behaviors in patients.

This course focuses on use of the nursing process to care for patients across the lifespan who experience cognitive, mental and behavioral conditions. Principles of therapeutic communication for patients with common mental health disorders is discussed. Methods to promoting and maintaining the mental health of individuals and families is identified.

This course focuses on providing safe, quality patient centered care of adults with acute alterations in health status across the lifespan. Emphasis is placed on safety, communication skills, problem solving, decision making, role responsibility and patient care.

This course provides an introduction to the principles of pharmacology including: pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, common adverse side effects, and contraindications. Emphasis is placed on drug classifications and nursing care for the safe administration of medications to patients across the life span. Nursing concepts related to legal and ethical nursing implications of medication administration are stressed. Dosage calculations and safe administrations of medications are practiced in the laboratory setting.

This course is designed to facilitate the transition from student role to practical nurse. Emphasis is placed on functioning as a member of the healthcare team using critical thinking skills to provide safe, quality, culturally-sensitive, evidence-based, nursing care to patients with commonly occurring health problems with predictable outcomes. The legal and ethical scope of practice for practical nurses is discussed. Preparation for the NCLEX® PN licensure exam is included.

This course presents concepts central to nursing professional growth and practice including specialties, professional nursing competencies and advanced practice nursing options. Information on professional practice standards, governing entities, professional organizations, and essential competencies associated with professional nursing will be explored. Specific information for effective study skills and learning in the on-line learning environment will be shared.

This course introduces the student to the structure and function of the body. Directions, geometric planes, and cavities of the body are presented. Cells, tissues, organs, and systems are discussed. The major organs of each system and how they relate to the overall status of the body are covered.

This course provides opportunities to practice advanced nursing skills in the skills and simulation laboratories that are required for patients in women’s health, maternity, and pediatric settings. Clinical experiences provide opportunities to apply theoretical concepts to implement safe care to childbearing women, newborns, and children in selected settings.

This course, which includes both a lab and theory component, provides students with relevant knowledge regarding the nursing process, together with the main assessment techniques to determine the health status of diverse individuals across the lifespan. The course also provides an opportunity for application of health assessment theory and skills in a simulated practice setting.

This course provides a historical overview of nursing along with the complexity of the role of the professional nurse as a provider of patient centered care. The multiple responsibilities of the professional nurse from the conceptual role as a member of the health care team, to patient safety advocate, advocate of the ethical and legal aspects involved in the nursing care of the patients, coordinator of care and member of a profession is also covered. Introduction to the NCLEX-RN Test Plan and its importance to RN licensure is also covered. 

This course examines the impact of economics, ethics, legal issues, political science, management, communications and technology on public health policymaking. Students explore contemporary issues in health policy through review of U.S. health policy development and factors that affect current and future health policy initiatives. Students will be challenged to think systematically and critically about these issues and various methods available to policymakers and lobbyists to improve the U.S. healthcare systems. 

This course uses skills laboratory, simulation and clinical experiences to focus on the advanced care of patients with acute alterations in health status across the lifespan. Emphasis is placed on application of theoretical concepts to implement safe care to patients in a variety of settings and promote healthy behaviors.

This course provides opportunities to practice nursing skills when providing safe, quality care to adult clients in acute care facilities and stable settings. Emphasis is on the application of knowledge learned in the classroom and skills laboratory when caring for patients in clinical settings.

This course provides students with opportunities to learn and practice basic nursing skills. The nursing process is integrated within all components of skilled practice. Nursing skills discussed include: data collection, documentation, activities of daily living, standard precautions, skin care and asepsis. Medication administration skills are practiced in the laboratory environment. Basic life support certification protocol and skills are provided.

Course content is centered around the introduction of the nursing process in support of critical thinking and nursing judgment for the provision of evidence-based, patient centered care. The foundation of nursing practice encompasses the care of culturally diverse patients experiencing health deficits across the lifespan. This course includes an inquiry into ethical, legal and regulatory requirements, the standards of professional nursing practice, chronic illness, disability, and end of life needs. Principles, concepts, and theories from the natural and social sciences in relation to safe nursing care are applied to patients and families. Students will demonstration critical thinking and nursing judgment for the provision of evidence-based patient and family centered care in the health care setting. 

This course will provide an overview of pharmacologic principles and therapies in nursing.  Additionally, this course will explore the varying responsibilities of the professional nurse as they relate to patient-centered pharmacologic treatments and a comprehensive approach to the clinical application of drug therapy. 

This course will discuss the basics of nursing research as it applies to evidence-based nursing practice. Students will also discuss critical decision making, ethical considerations, and the importance of protecting human subjects in nursing research. 

This course focuses on an introduction to the nursing care of the adult patient with medical and/or surgical health alterations. Emphasis is placed on care of the patient with alterations in the following categories and concepts: acid-base balance, fluid and electrolyte imbalances, cardiac, respiratory, integumentary system, pain management, neurology, integumentary, immunity, and oncology.  Concepts of health promotion interprofessional collaboration, therapeutic communication and evidence-based practice are incorporated throughout the course.  This course provides the opportunity for application of the theory. Emphasis will be placed on care for the medical and surgical patient with stable or chronic health care needs. 

This course focuses on analyzing nursing care of the adult patient with medical and surgical health alterations. Emphasis is placed on care of the client with acute health care needs.  Concepts of health promotion, interprofessional collaboration, therapeutic communication, and evidence-based practice are incorporated throughout the course. Emphasis will be placed on care for the medical and surgical patient with acute health care needs

This course relates the risk factors for, and manifestations of, disease processes to the principals of pathology, nursing interventions, and outcomes, across the lifespan. 

This course discusses evidence-based care for patients with psychiatric/mental health issues, including psychosocial concepts, as well as cultural, ethical, and legal influences, and the development of the professional nursing role in psychiatric/mental health nursing. 

This course is designed to stimulate the student’s critical thinking and analytic skills related to the community’s health and the public’s health concerns in the country. Students will explore the impact of social determinates of health on individuals, communities, and national and global populations, as well as the public and community health interventions to improve health. The course will identify how the various roles of the school nurse, home health nurse and other public health nurse roles positively impact the health of the child, family, community, and overall population through ongoing education of the population and its stakeholders. The student will analyze the roles of the nurse as an advocate, educator, policy influencer and leader in public health using evidence-based research. 

This course provides foundational tools for the assessment and care of the pregnant woman and neonate, with an emphasis on evidence-based care and family-centered nursing. The nursing process will provide the framework for assessment of healthy pregnancies and deliveries, as well as common complications that may occur during pregnancy, delivery, and the neonatal period.  This course provides clinical opportunity to acquire and practice skills related to maternal and neonatal nursing practice. 

This course utilizes an integrated, family-centered approach to the nursing assessment and care of the pediatric patient population with an emphasis on common pediatric illnesses and disorders while incorporating theories of development and family dynamics. This course will provide the opportunity to acquire and practice skills related to pediatric nursing practice. 

This course focuses on the professional identity of nursing along with leadership and management concepts. Topics include leadership styles, decision making, planned change, defining types and sources of conflict, conflict resolution strategies, and communication

This course is an introduction to the critically ill patient. Emphasis is placed on nursing care of the complex patient with health alterations in the one or multiple body systems. Concepts of health promotion, interprofessional collaboration, therapeutic communication and evidence-based practice are incorporated throughout the course. 

This course focuses on the total aspect of seeking, procuring, and leaving a position and preparations for licensure testing. Resume writing and interviewing skills are emphasized. The course will also review the critical thinking and clinical judgement necessary for successful completion of the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses.
