Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Successful completion of the program leads to the award of a Bachelor of Science degree and permits the graduate to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses® (NCLEX-RN) and to the State Board of Nursing for licensure. State licensure is required to practice as an RN in Colorado. Licensure may be denied by the Board of Nursing for reasons that include, but are not limited to, fraud/deceit in making application, felony or misdemeanor convictions, issues with drugs or alcohol, or charges pending in any state.
In addition, Colorado is one of 35 states that currently participate in the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) program. The NLC is an agreement between states that allows nurses to have one license but the ability to practice in other states that are part of the agreement. Please note that in each state, other factors beyond passing the NCLEX exam are considered in granting licensure, including background checks and drug screens. Additional information regarding the Nurse Licensure Compact and an up-to-date listing of participating states may be obtained from the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
